VW Amarok 10 Deserts Record Tour
VW Amarok 10 Deserts Record Tour
Rainer Zietlow, multiple Guinness World Record holder, set himself a record-breaking journey through all ten Australian deserts for October 2024.
It was an ambitious undertaking, as exceptional rainfall during the Australian winter of that year meant many desert routes were only partially passable, and some were even closed.
Nevertheless, Zietlow, photographer Marius Biela, and desert expert Brad Howes set off in a VW Amarok from Marree in southern Australia on October 21.
The three drove around the clock through Australia's ten most significant deserts: The Strzelecki Desert, the Sturt Stony Desert, the Tirari Desert, the Great Victoria Desert, the Gibson Desert, the Little Sandy Desert, the Great Sandy Desert, the Tanami Desert, the Pedirka Desert, and finally the Simpson Desert. In total, they traveled 6,241 kilometers.
After 6 days and 17 hours, they arrived in Alice Springs on October 27, 2024, setting a new Guinness World Record.
