VW ID.4 USA TOUR
VW ID.4 USA TOUR
On July 13, 2021, Rainer Zietlow, the owner of Challenge4.de and world record holder, started with cameraman Derek Collins at the Volkswagen headquarters in Herndon, Virginia, USA.
The nearly 100-day road trip across the U.S. began in a newly launched all-electric VW ID.4 vehicle with a 77 kWh net battery capacity.
The route took them counterclockwise through each of the 48 continental U.S. states. From the East Coast to the Midwest to the West Coast and back to Herndon, Virginia, Zietlow and his co-pilot visited 628 Volkswagen dealerships. The team primarily used Electrify America charging stations to charge the VW ID.4, stopping at 208 stations in total.
On October 18, 2021, the VW ID.4 USA Tour team set a new Guinness World Records™ record by driving 57,566 km (35,770 miles) continuously in one country in an electric car, more than doubling the previous record. An official GWR representative presented the Guinness World Records™ certificate in Washington, DC.
As with each of his tours, Rainer Zietlow supported the international charity SOS Children’s Villages by donating ten US cents per mile driven to the SOS Children’s Village in Coconut Creek, Florida.
