Rainer Zietlow's 11th project was to break his own long-distance world record, "CapetoCape," which he set from Norway to South Africa a year prior in 2014.
To accomplish this feat, Zietlow, along with photographer and cameraman Marius Biela and Racing Line UK CEO Sam Roach, traveled 17,568 kilometers from Cape Agulhas in South Africa to Nordkapp in Norway in a new record time of 9 days and 4 hours.
The journey took them through 21 countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa. To spend as much time as possible on the ground, they chose to fly over Syria at the shortest possible distance, from Amman, Jordan, to Adana, Turkey.
The only modifications made to the vehicle, a VW Touareg, for this ultimate endurance test were the addition of a rollover cage and two auxiliary fuel tanks, which gave the vehicle a range of more than 3,000 kilometers.
Zietlow donated 10 euro cents per kilometer to the aid organization SOS Children’s Village, as he has done for previous projects. The money went to a children's village in South Africa that Zietlow personally visited with the tour vehicle.
