Rainer Zietlow’s 16th project was the transfer of two new VW Touaregs type CR from Beijing to Wolfsburg.

After the official presentation at the Beijing Motor Show—the most important car fair in Asia—journalists from various print and TV media outlets were able to experience the qualities of the new premium vehicle for themselves during individual test drives guided by the experienced long-distance record driver, Zietlow.

The route took visitors through beautiful landscapes, dunes, and canyons; endless steppes; and to the Baikonur spaceport and the Aral and Baikal lakes. From April 5 to 29, 2018, Rainer Zietlow and the accompanying journalists traveled more than 16,000 kilometers. During the trip, the large SUV demonstrated its capabilities on smaller sand and gravel roads, away from main asphalt routes.

Despite difficult-to-calculate road and weather conditions, the new Volkswagen demonstrated its long-distance capability and reliability. Both the passengers and Rainer Zietlow were able to experience this firsthand on their journey through China, Russia, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Germany.
